HOW TO GROW YELLOW SWISS CHARD FROM SEEDS
Seeds of yellow Swiss chard should be sown about a week after the last spring frost. They should be planted one to two cm deep in full sunlight in compost-enriched soil. For harvesting the entire plant, space the plants 4-5" apart. In order to harvest continuously the outer stalks, space the plants 8-10" apart. For a continuous summer crop, plant seeds every two weeks. The seeds should germinate after a week. You can also plant Swiss chard in the fall because it can withstand light frosts.
CARE FOR SWISS CHARD AFTER GERMINATION
With mulch, you can keep the soil moist and prevent weeds from growing. The seedlings are susceptible to moisture at the beginning of their growth. As soon as the leaves reach a height of 6-8", they can be harvested for greens. The whole plant can be harvested at the soil surface but leave an inch of stem to ensure continued growth. Additionally, the outer stalks can be harvested while the inner stalks grow.
YELLOW SWISS CHARD USES AND HEALTH BENEFITS
It is often steamed or sauteed and can be added to soups, stews, casseroles, frittatas, and quiches. The young leaves are edible raw in salads. Chard always has green leaves, but the stalks vary in color. Swiss chard is a good source of vitamin C, magnesium, and vitamin A. In addition, beta-carotene, lutein, and zeaxanthin are antioxidants in Swiss chard. Vitamin A is essential for the normal development and maintenance of many organs, including the heart, lungs, and kidneys.
