HOW TO GROW SWEET PEPPERS FROM SEEDS
You can fill seed flats or pots up to four inches in diameter with sterile potting soil or your potting mix of equal parts sphagnum peat, organic compost, perlite, or sand. Water them before sowing sweet bell pepper seeds to avoid moving or uncovering the seeds. Plant one seed per cell flat or three seeds per pot if starting seeds in larger pots one cm deep in potting mix. Make sure the seed is in contact with the soil by gently pressing down. Place the pots or trays in a sunny location with temperatures between 25-30° Celsius for optimal germination. You can put the seed trays near a radiator or heating vent to facilitate germination.
CARE FOR SWEET PEPPERS AFTER GERMINATION
Ensure the soil in the seed trays is evenly moist but not too wet. Otherwise, the seeds may rot before sprouting. When seedlings develop two leaves, thin seedlings in four-inch pots to the two best plants, in seedling trays with small cells, move healthy seedlings to four-inch pots, planting two seedlings in each pot. Two peppers are grown together to protect sunscald as they grow, often leading to a greater harvest than if they were planted separately. It is not recommended to leave seedlings outside overnight in cold weather or in freezing temperatures.
