HOW TO GROW SWEET MUSTARD FROM SEEDS
The mustard plant grows fast and then bolts in the cool seasons. You can direct sow with frost protection as early as late winter or without protection from early to late spring. Sowing short rows every three weeks allows for a continuous harvest of baby leaves and full-sized plants. Sow again in late summer for harvest in the fall and winter. A few seeds should be planted in each area you want to see a plant grow. Plant seeds 1cm deep and thin to the strongest plant, spaced 10-15cm apart in the row. The optimal soil temperature must be 21°C, and the seeds may sprout in a week.
CARE AFTER GERMINATION OF MUSTARD
Three meters of row can be nourished with one cup of complete organic fertilizer. The seeds should be watered frequently for best results. Expect mustards to bolt in hot weather. Provide winter protection by using a cloche or heavy row cover. Plan to grow fast and harvest fast, like spinach, at all other times. The best method for the home garden for a constant harvest is to plant short rows every two weeks. Depending on the plant's maturity, you can cut individual leaves or the whole plant.
MUSTARD USES AND HEALTH BENEFITS
Mustard is a delicious topping for steamed or roasted vegetables despite its strange sound. This dish pairs well with grilled or roasted sweet or red potatoes and onions, steamed broccoli, grilled zucchini, and oven-roasted tomatoes and squash. It's sweet, tangy, creamy, texture perfect, and it makes salads taste amazing. Mustards contain protein, fiber, vitamin C, and many B-complex vitamins. Mustard is beneficial for the body in many ways, such as relieving muscular pains, ringworm, and respiratory disorders. It is also helpful in treating cancer and diabetes.
