HOW TO GROW PURPLE BASIL FROM SEEDS
Seeds should be started indoors or planted outdoors when temperatures are 18 degrees C or higher. It prefers light, well-draining soil that has been amended with well-composted materials. Start seedlings in peat pots, newspaper pots, or seed starting trays about seven weeks before the last frost in your area. Fill with sterile seed starting medium. Plant a few sweet basil seeds per cell or pot, and plant them one centimeter deep. Firm the soil well over the top. Warm, moist conditions should be maintained until germination. Germination should occur in about a week under ideal conditions. Several sets of true leaves should be enough to thin seedlings to just one per cell.
CARE FOR PURPLE BASIL AFTER GERMINATION
As leaves develop, move into a partially sunny spot. While germinating, the soil should be consistently moist but not soggy, as young plants may damp off and fail. As plants mature, they gradually move into a full sun location. When the seedlings have six true leaves, you should pinch off the top set. Strong, bushy plants will result. When your basil plants grow, you can pot them into increasingly larger containers. Bury the stems for solid plants. Please provide them with lots of light. For basil to thrive, full sun is needed. Let them grow and provide them with a warm environment. Basil cannot tolerate cold temperatures.
USES AND HEALTH BENEFITS OF PURPLE BASIL
Like other types of basil, Purple basil contains Vitamin K, which helps with blood clotting and promotes bone health. A powerful antioxidant and antibacterial, basil oil boosts the immune system and combats aging and skin issues. This spice can be used to flavor beans, cheeses, chicken, eggs, fish, marinades, marrow, mushrooms, pasta, pasta sauces, and salads. In contrast to most herbs, this type of basil isn't green. The leaves are more significant than normal and are a bright purple color. There is a strong clove flavor, and it is not as sweet as other basil varieties.
