HOW TO GROW SPRING ONION FROM SEEDS

It's not hard to grow dark onions! Approximately ten weeks before your local last frost date, start the onion seeds indoors and transplant them outdoors. Plant them one-quarter inch deep. Ideally, it needs a sunny and fertile site with good drainage and fertile soil. Germination takes about 4-10 days when planted indoors. The plants should be transplanted outdoors just before the last frost. Whenever you transplant seedlings, space them at least six inches apart.

CARE AFTER GERMINATION OF SPRING ONION

Plant your onions in an area with good drainage. It is best to plant onion seedlings in the least weedy part of your garden; onion seedlings are tiny and do not compete well with weeds. Before the last frost, make a large furrow in your soil, at least four inches deep. Prepare your seedlings for transplanting by watering this furrow before planting. Onion growth can be affected by bacterial, fungal, and viral diseases.

SPRING ONION USAGE AND HEALTH BENEFITS

Crisp salads of shredded vegetables or fish dishes are excellent with Dark Onion. Sprinkle on fresh chutneys and raitas, partly for their flavor. Dark Onions contain antioxidants and compounds that fight inflammation, reduce triglyceride levels and lower cholesterol levels. All of which may lower heart disease risk. Additionally, their potent anti-inflammatory properties may help to reduce high blood pressure and prevent blood clots.
