HOW TO GROW HOT PETER PEPPER FROM SEED

It would be best if you started planting about six to ten weeks before your area's last average frost date. Generally, January is an excellent time to start hot pepper seeds, but you may want to start as early as November or as late as February. Place seed-starting mix in a tray filled with cells. Afterwards, water the trays well and drain until the mixture is moist but not soggy—place seeds on top of the damp seed starting mix. The tray should be covered with clear plastic or placed inside a white garbage bag. Watch for seeds to germinate, which can take as little as a week or as much as six weeks, depending on temperature and variety.

CARE FOR HOT PETER PEPPER AFTER GERMINATION

Once the seeds have germinated, remove the plastic. Use fluorescent bulbs or grow lights to illuminate the trays. Peter Pepper Plants require at least six hours of direct sunlight each day. The strongest, sturdiest seeds in each cell should be left. Make use of scissors to cut away the weakest seedlings. The seedlings will grow more vital if you place a fan near them. If the air isn't too cold, you can also open a window. When the seedlings are big enough to handle, transplant them into three- to four-inch pots filled with regular potting soil. Ensure that the days and nights are warm and there is no frost.

USES AND HEALTH BENEFITS OF HOT PETER PEPPER

The peter pepper can be as hot as a serrano pepper, so they're suitable for making sauces and hot sauces. They're also good for spicy sauces. Besides using them for salsa recipes, you can also use them in everyday cooking as part of your mirepoix or Cajun Holy Trinity for soups, stews, gumbos, and more. Researchers have found that capsaicin can improve heart health, prevent diabetes, and to avoid cancer. These peppers can also make you feel less hungry and lower your blood pressure.
