HOW TO GROW PURPLE ASTER FLOWER FROM SEEDS
Growing asters in a container are easy. The best conditions for them are the full sun and warm temperatures. Shade-tolerant varieties, however, will produce fewer flowers. You should have loamy, well-draining soil. Sandy soil with dry roots will cause plant wilt, while clay soil with wet roots will cause root rot. Plant spacing should be between one and four feet, depending on the variety. Asters can be planted anytime during the growing season. Planting in the spring or fall will allow the plants to establish themselves before it becomes too hot or cold. The spring and early fall are the most suitable times to plant in the northern region. Before winter sets in, plants have time to grow roots.
CARE FOR PURPLE ASTER FLOWER AFTER GERMINATION
Asters can reach heights of one to six feet and span a width of one to four feet, depending on the type and variety. Daisy-like flowers bloom on upright and bushy plants with hairy or smooth leaves. Midsummer is the time to stake or cage tall varieties of asters to prevent them from falling over in the fall. Water them thoroughly to prevent them from getting dehydrated. Keep them moist during the summer. Drought-stressed plants may have less impressive fall flowering. Planting asters infertile soils usually does not require much extra fertility. Every spring, add compost to the soil.
USES AND BENEFITS OF ASTER
The leaves and blooms of aster plants can be eaten. In the Ojibwa tradition, aster root was applied topically to treat headaches. The root was also used to treat venereal diseases. Due to its white color, aster root is associated with innocence. Asters' red color symbolizes devotion. They are pink in color and represent love and sensitivity. Toward the end of the season, goldenrods and asters attract various pollinating insects. Food and shelter are provided by the seeds and dried stalks by birds and small animals during the winter.
