Zinnia seedlings will appear within a week for most varieties, but blooms may take up to several months, depending on the planting location and climate. To maximize air circulation, thin seedlings when they reach three inches tall so that they are six to 18 inches apart. By doing so, powdery mildew is less likely to develop.
