HOW TO GROW MIXED MORNING GLORY FLOWER FROM SEEDS

Seeds can be started indoors before your last frost date, but you should do so 4 to 6 weeks before your later frost date. Otherwise, you can plant them in the ground immediately. Scarification accelerates germination for morning glory seeds, which are extremely difficult to germinate. Rub them between two pieces of coarse sandpaper for a few seconds, then soak them overnight. In general, seeds should be planted about a quarter-inch deep and several inches apart. After sprouting the seeds, it is essential to maintain a moist environment.

CARE FOR MIXED MORNING GLORY AFTER GERMINATION

An ideal soil for morning glory plants is moist but well-draining. You still have the opportunity of amending the soil if the vines do not appear to be flourishing. Water your morning glories about an inch each week and mulch the roots to keep moisture in. Once your plant is established (and in the winter), you can reduce the amount of water it needs as it grows. Cold and heat do not seem to affect early morning glory despite its hardiness.

USES AND BENEFITS OF MIXED MORNING GLORY

For centuries, morning glory roots have been used in Asia and Mesoamerica as diuretics and expectorants. Herbalists have also used the leaves to relieve headaches with tea brewed from them. As well as treating abdominal disorders, headaches, fevers, and bronchitis, this plant acts as a diuretic, an anthelmintic, a blood purifier, a deobstruent, a laxative, and an anti-inflammatory.
