HOW TO GROW ITALIAN LETTUCE FROM SEEDS
You can grow Italian lettuce quickly. Ideally, direct sowing in the garden should be done once the ground is workable. Seeds can also be started a month indoors before your last frost date if you want an earlier crop. After the soil reaches 4 °C, lettuce seeds can be sown, but germination occurs best between 13 and 18°C. Seedlings will typically emerge in a week to 10 days. After the transplants have been properly hardened off, they may be planted two to three weeks earlier than started indoors to have a continuous supply of lettuce and plant other seeds every two weeks after the initial planting.
CARE FOR ITALIAN LETTUCE AFTER GERMINATION
It would help if you fertilized the plants three weeks after transplanting them. Compost, plenty of nitrogen, and a constant supply of organic matter are crucial for lettuce to thrive. Use organic alfalfa meal or a slow-release fertilizer. Make sure the soil is moist but not too wet. The soil should drain well. You will know when to water lettuce. Just look at it! Sprinkle water on wilting leaves at any time, even in the heat of the day, to cool them off and slow down transpiration. They can also be used to protect lettuce from drying out in the sun, in addition to row covers. An organic mulch conserves moisture, suppresses weeds, and keeps soil temperatures cool in the summer.
USES AND HEALTH BENEFITS OF ITALIAN LETTUCE
As an excellent green vegetable, lettuce is used in salads, cooked with vegetable dishes, and most commonly used on sandwiches. When harvesting, look for freshness, selecting lettuce that does not have wilted and discolored leaves. In addition to being packed with vitamins and minerals, salads can also boost your blood's antioxidant levels. Italian lettuce, the basis of any salad, provides a significant nutritional value.
