CARE AFTER GERMINATION OF BUTTERHEAD LETTUCE 

Before transplanting, reduce water and temperature for three days to harden seedlings. Plant crispheads in rows 18 inches apart, spaced 12 inches apart. Row covers are used to protect young plants from cold, protect young plants from insects, and shade crops when warm weather arrives. Lettuce has a shallow root system.
