HOW TO GROW FROM SEEDS HERB HYSSOP BLUE

Full sun to partial shade and dry, well-drained soil is perfect for growing Hyssop. Before you plant:

  1. Ensure the soil is rich in organic matter, such as compost or aged animal manure. You may also need to lighten the planting hole with an organic fertilizer application.
  2. Sow seeds indoors just beneath the soil's surface 8-10 weeks before the last frost.
  3. Germinate at 15-20°C.

After a week or ten days, the seeds should germinate. Once the last frost has passed, transplant the plants out the following spring. Plants should be set at a distance of 1-2 feet.

CARE AFTER GERMINATION OF HYSSOP BLUE

You need to take good care of your hyssop plant. Allow the soil to dry out between waterings completely, and then soak the soil entirely through. Hyssop plants can be trimmed to maintain a neat shape without pruning in the growing season. Cut the plants back completely during early spring. A plant will be more compact and flower better in the following year when its leaves are pruned to the first set after flowering. So it's your choice whether to prune or not.

HOW TO HARVEST AND STORE HYSSOP BLUE

The aromatic plant with small leaves and blue flowers. It is 55cm high, has a bitter taste, and is in your garden. If you need young leaves or stems, harvest them as needed. The optimal flavor is achieved when the dew has dried in the morning. Leaves should not be washed, or the aromatic oils will be lost. Hyssop is best used fresh but can also be frozen or dried and stored in plastic bags. In a well-ventilated, dark room, hang the cuttings upside down in small bundles until they are dry. Leaves should be separated from stems and stored whole when dry. Before use, crush, or grind.
