HOW TO GROW MONK FRUIT SEEDS

Before sowing, soak Monk Fruit seeds for 3-4 days for good results. Under grow lights or in an excellent solar greenhouse, plant plants in a fast-draining mix. Seeds can be sown about five centimetres deep, and the planting area should stay warm and dry. Watering too often seems to discourage germination since the seeds have already swelled up after soaking. Germination may take 3 to 6 weeks. The plants should be transplanted to parts of the garden with rich hills, along with trellising.

LOU HAN GOU CARE AFTER GERMINATION

Monk Fruit alias Luo Han Guo prefers cool ambient temperatures of 20 to 22C. It grows better with a significant difference in night and day temperatures. Humidity should be high. In partial shade, it does well with at least 7-8 hours of illumination. It also likes diffused light. It is not particularly important what the soil is like, but soils with hummus are preferred. There is no direct sunlight on this exotic liana, but it grows in a warm climate without a nebula.

LUO HAN GUO AND BENEFITS

Monk fruit, also known as Buddha fruit or Luo Han Guo, is significant in Chinese culture and offers a natural alternative to traditional sweeteners. With its unique appearance and exceptional sweetness, monk fruit has been utilized for centuries as a natural sweetener in various culinary applications. In addition to its sweetness, monk fruit resembles melons in taste. This extract, is approximately 300 times sweeter than sugar.

Monk fruit encompasses several noteworthy characteristics, including:

  1. Distinctive Features: Luo Han Guo's physical attributes include narrow, heart-shaped leaves measuring 10-20 cm long. The fruit itself is round, smooth, and exhibits a spherical shape. It is enveloped by hard, thin skin adorned with fine hairs. The sweetness of the fruit intensifies as it ripens and develops a darker hue. When tasted, monk fruit offers a melon-like flavour, contributing to its appeal as a natural sweetening agent.

  2. Natural Sweetness: For over a millennium, Chinese culture has embraced Luo Han Guo extract as a natural sweetener. With a sweetness level approximately 300 times that of sugar, monk fruit provides an attractive alternative for those seeking to reduce their sugar consumption or manage diabetes. By incorporating monk fruit as a sweetening agent, individuals can enjoy the taste of sweetness without the associated caloric intake or impact on blood sugar levels.

  3. Traditional Chinese Medicine: Besides its role as a natural sweetener, monk fruit holds significance in traditional Chinese medicine. Throughout history, practitioners have utilized monk fruit to treat various health conditions. While specific medical claims are beyond the scope of this discussion, it is worth noting that monk fruit extract has played a part in traditional therapeutic practices.

No success in Canada

Even though I was growing the plants in the area of Canada with the most heat units and longest growing season of eastern Canada, no flowering or fruiting. The first year it grew moderately well, the second year, after overwintering indoors, it grew very poorly and died by the end of the summer.
